MISSION
CARIBBEAN ONE is an advocacy organization dedicated to the empowerment
of Caribbean Americans through community building, civic action, and cultural
expression. We commit to:
-encouraging Caribbean Americans to know their rights and engage in their
communities
-creating opportunities for networking and service
-celebrating our culture and building bridges to other communities
-recognizing our leaders and champions
-having fun doing all of it (we are Caribbean!)
VISION
CARIBBEAN ONE envisions a progressive Caribbean American community-
diverse, dynamic, and determined.
Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1924 to Guyanese and Barbadian parents, Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm was an educator, author, and historic politician. In 1968, she became the first Black woman elected to Congress and helped to found the Congressional Black Caucus the next year. Her 1972 presidential bid made her the first Black major party candidate and first Democratic woman candidate, ever. Her victories in three state primaries and her powerful presence in Congress inspired a generation of progressive politicians.

THE WORK
CARIBBEAN ONE is as multifaceted as our community. Our work is geared to
a broad spectrum of Caribbean-Americans, from the second and third
generation professionals seeking connections to culture and community to
newly arrived immigrants in need of basic services.
Whether through our magazine, website, special events and dinners,
info-guides, or workshops and trainings, we want to make sure that
CARIBBEAN ONE is a meaningful, vital, sustaining resource, and home.
And we are just getting started.
